What Is a Fractional CIO?

A Fractional CIO is a service that involves hiring an experienced IT director on a part-time basis (e.g., several hours per month). It's a solution for companies that are too large to lack an IT strategy but too small to employ a full-time CIO.

Which companies is the Fractional CIO service for?

Growing faster than their IT
Implementations are delayed, systems can't keep up, and no one is looking at technology strategically

Don't have an IT director but need those competencies
Technology decisions are made by the CEO, the accountant, or "the person who knows about computers"

Spending on IT but unsure if wisely
No control over the budget, vendors, or the direction of technology development

Facing a digital transformation challenge
Cloud migration, ERP/CRM implementation, process automation, AI readiness

Fractional CIO Service Scope

A Fractional CIO is not "an IT person on call." It's strategic support at the board level — from IT budget planning, through implementation oversight, to vendor negotiations and building organizational security. The scope of cooperation is always tailored to the company's digital maturity and business objectives.

Fractional CIO

E-IT is an IT consulting company operating in the market since 2014. We specialize in IT management using the Fractional CIO model — meaning "Part-Time IT Director." We help companies that need expert IT oversight at the board level but don't have the need or budget to hire a full-time IT director. We act as an external strategic partner for business owners and management boards.

Our Fractional CIO service includes:

Technology strategy — developing an IT roadmap for 12–36 months, aligned with the company's business objectives

IT budget management — planning and optimizing technology spending

Vendor management — negotiating contracts, overseeing the quality of external services, consolidating the vendor portfolio

Project oversight — monitoring key IT implementations, ensuring timely delivery and alignment with business requirements

Cybersecurity and business continuity — risk analysis, security policies, BCP (Business Continuity Planning) plans, regulatory compliance support

Board-level support — participating in management meetings, translating technology language into business language, advising on key decisions

Digital transformation — identifying processes for automation, implementing new tools, overseeing system integrations

Three key differences:

1. We operate at the strategic level, not the operational one. We are not a helpdesk or a software house. We don't fix printers and we don't write code — we manage technology as a whole, just as an IT director does in a large corporation.

2. We are technology-independent. We don't sell hardware, licenses, or services from specific vendors. Our recommendations are objective and serve exclusively the client's interests — unlike the Virtual CIO model offered by MSP companies, which are often driven by their own product portfolio.

3. We combine corporate experience with a flexible cooperation model. Our consultants hold certifications such as PMP, SAFe, and ITIL, along with years of experience managing large-scale IT projects. The client gains enterprise-class competencies without full-time costs.

Koszty zależą od zakresu i intensywności zaangażowania. Oferujemy trzy modele rozliczeń:

Project (Flat Fee)

One-time tasks (audit, strategy)

Fractional CIO is a long-term cooperation model, not a one-time project. A typical cycle looks as follows:

Month 1–2: Audit and diagnosis — analysis of current infrastructure, processes, security, and vendor contracts

Month 2–3: IT strategy development (12–24 month roadmap)

Month 3+:Ongoing oversight, strategy execution, quarterly business reviews (QBR)

The minimum meaningful engagement is 4–6 months — the time needed for an audit, strategy development, and beginning implementation of the first changes. Many clients work with us on an ongoing basis for years, because strategic IT management is a process, not a one-time event.
Directly — an experienced IT manager with years of experience in technology management and corporate-level project delivery.

In the Fractional CIO model, you don't deal with juniors or a rotating team — the same person gets to know your company from day one and builds a long-term relationship with you.
We tailor the communication model to the client's needs. It typically includes:

Regular meetings — recurring (weekly or bi-weekly) status meetings, online or on-site

Board participation — presence at management meetings when technology matters are discussed

Quarterly Business Reviews (QBR) — formal progress summaries, budget and strategy updates

Ongoing availability — email and phone contact within agreed time frames for urgent consultations

Important: A Fractional CIO is not available "24/7 on call" for every technical issue. In urgent operational situations (server failure, printer problem), the first point of contact should be the helpdesk. The CIO engages in strategic, tactical, and critical matters.
That's entirely possible — and we'll honestly tell you so. A Fractional CIO isn't for every company. If during the initial conversation it turns out that your challenges are purely operational (e.g., you need someone to manage the helpdesk), we'll point you to a more appropriate solution — such as an MSP (Managed Service Provider) or hiring an internal IT Manager.

The initial consultation call serves exactly this purpose — to jointly assess whether the "part-time" model is suitable for your situation. There's no point paying for strategic consulting when the problem is a lack of basic technical support.
Fractional CIO is technology-agnostic — we don't promote specific products or platforms. We work with whatever best suits the client's needs. Typical areas we advise on include:

Business systems — ERP, CRM, e-commerce platforms, BI tools

Cloud and infrastructure — cloud migrations (Azure, AWS, GCP), hybrid IT environments

Cybersecurity — policies, procedures, audits, GDPR and NIS2 compliance; we collaborate with specialized entities and consultants

Integrations and automation — connecting systems, process automation (RPA), eliminating data silos

Collaboration tools — Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, project management systems

AI and modern technologies — assessing company readiness for AI implementation, cooperation with our sister company Aretis Sp. z o.o. in AI adoption programs
A Fractional CIO is probably NOT for you if:

You're looking for someone to fix computers and printers — that's the role of a helpdesk or MSP, not an IT strategist

You need a programmer or developer — we don't write code; we manage those who do

You expect full-time, daily presence in the office — the "part-time" model assumes fractional engagement (e.g., 1 day per week)

Your company has no IT budget — if you're not planning any technology investments, our services won't apply

You want someone to make business decisions for you — we advise and recommend, but final decisions always belong to the management board
The process is simple and non-binding:

Contact us — write or call. Briefly describe your company and the challenges you're facing.

Free initial call — a 30-minute conversation during which we assess whether the Fractional CIO model fits your situation. If not — we'll say so directly and point you to a better solution.

Cooperation proposal — if we see room for cooperation, we prepare a specific offer with scope, billing model, and timeline.

Start: Audit and diagnosis — the first step is always an in-depth analysis of the current state of IT in your company. Based on this, a strategy and action plan are developed.

There are no long-term commitments at the start — we begin with an audit, and continuation depends on real results and your decision.
